We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of experienced software engineers who are designing, implementing, and rethinking Identity & Access Management (IAM) for our Platform.

You won’t always be the person with the answer or the person making the decisions, but you are expected to guide most of them. We need a person who has made critical decisions in the evolution of a big product and platform over multiple years and releases, and who can lead a team with a coherent vision while making appropriate compromises along the way.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Manage, mentor and lead a globally distributed team of experienced engineers
  • Lead the efficient delivery for both SaaS, and time-boxed software releases, ensuring high quality and innovative feature development
  • Build roadmaps and lead prioritization; balance the right amount of structure and planning for a fast-paced engineering team
  • Work with our Product Management team to ensure requirements and the “why” are clear
  • Work with and enable our Support team to help ensure we have the right processes in place to provide world-class support to our customers
  • Foster a culture of mutual respect and collaborative decision-making
  • Stay true to the principles of software development as adopted by our team
  • Identify staffing requirements and help drive recruitment of high-quality colleagues
  • Provide mentorship and support the development and training of team members through regular performance evaluations
  • Be an awesome person to work with, somebody who sincerely empathises with others

What You Bring Along

  • Experience leading diverse teams of software engineers as a people manager
  • Experience leading complex engineering projects that cross engineering teams
  • Experience as a hands-on software engineer and strength in computer science fundamentals to understand the engineering work that is going on in your team
  • Performance management experience (promotions, PIPs, development plans, terminations)
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills
  • A compassionate approach to communication, a good sense of humor, and a genuine interest in the success and growth of the people you work with

Bonus Points

  • You've worked on a SaaS product before.
  • You're familiar with the IAM domain and have working knowledge of modern authentication and authorization principles and best practices.
  • You've worked with distributed systems before.
  • You've built things with our Elastic Stack before.
  • You've managed a globally distributed team before.

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $152,200 and $209,300, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.

Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within a holistic total rewards offering.
