Do you love the reward of empowering teams with design solutions, tools, and guidelines? Are you a systems thinker who enjoys solving problems at the intersection of design and technology? We’re looking for an experienced Director of UX to lead our platform UX and team. This includes the UX of Kibana, our data visualization dashboard software for Elasticsearch, our UX architecture, our design system, Elastic UI, and documentation platform. You'll work across organizational teams to improve overall UX quality, drive large global initiatives, and contribute to scaling UX maturity at Elastic. You'll lead a large team of designers, UX engineers, and UX managers while working closely with product management and engineering partners.

What you'll do:

  • Apply your systems-thinking, design, research, product, and technical know-how to drive a vision-led product experience that delivers user value and helps drive market differentiation.
  • Cultivate relationships with myriad internal stakeholders across the organization, understand their needs, and deliver well-aligned platform solutions.
  • Mature and evolve the Elastic UI (design system), govern implementation and appropriate usage, and establish a design contribution model to deliver a cohesive and high-quality UX.
  • Foster collaboration, help standardize methodologies, and ways-of-working across organizational teams.
  • Deliver on business and UX objectives, manage backlogs and evolving priorities to assure team focus and impact.
  • Apply a data-informed and user-centric approach to identify UX opportunities and validate solutions.
  • Nurture your team’s learning and growth with career mentorship, coaching, development, and culture-building activities.
  • Improve test-and-learn rigor, working iteratively with UX researchers, writers, and product managers.
  • Partner with UX leadership peers to help grow the overall UX org and the quality of our end-to-end experience.

What you bring:

  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, able to present, pitch ideas and present data-informed design rationales.
  • Previous hands-on experience as a designer, researcher, or similar UX craft.
  • Proven experience of driving a vision and strategy
  • Experienced manager of managers, and manager of designers with 5+ years of direct-line people management
  • Experience building design systems
  • Experience conducting user research, working with AB tests and analytics tools
  • Experience working with data visualizations, rich data interfaces, or a highly technical product
  • Familiarity with Figma and other design tools
  • Self-starter, passion for learning and development
  • Enthusiastic about emergent design and technology trends
  • Previous experience working in a remote environment

  • Experience working in SaaS or enterprise software
  • Experience managing engineers
  • Experience delivering large scale information architecture solutions
  • Experience working with documentation teams
  • Past experience working in a platform team
  • A portfolio that showcases design solutions of your leadership
  • Technical understanding that includes HTML, CSS, Javascript, Git, and GitHub.
  • Formal training in design and/or engineering.
