Elastic Cloud is the fast-growing flagship provider of Elastic’s products, and we are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer specialized in Cloud Networking to join our team.

Our service is operated at a true global scale - across multiple major Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) in over 50 regions spanning the world, hosting critical workloads for thousands of customers in every industry! Our team handles the infrastructure behind the Elastic Cloud - including our Cloud network infrastructure and the automation of all administrative functions using industry-standard tooling. We need help building a scalable, reliable, and easy to maintain infrastructure to enable us to offer a truly outstanding customer experience. This is where you come in!

What you will be doing

  • Design, implement, and migrate networks to private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructures.
  • Ensure that our network infrastructure is keeping up with our customer and business needs.
  • Scaling, planning, and implementing network component deployments.
  • Solve connectivity issues, routing problems, firewalling, and anything related to the network substrate of Elastic.
  • Automating deployment, monitoring, and alerting solutions.
  • Responding to network incidents.
  • Ensure our networking infrastructure costs are kept in check.
  • Be security minded, partnering with teams across the company to improve our security posture.
  • Act as a consultant to other engineers when network infrastructure or Linux networking knowledge is required.
  • Participate in a “follow-the-sun” on-call rotation.

What you bring along

You don't need to have all of these items, but these represent the skills that would serve the team well.

  • Excellent networking skills, with knowledge of protocols such as IP/IPv6, TCP/UDP, BGP, VXLAN, VRRP, DNS.
  • Good knowledge of any public CSP network components (Load balancers, VPC peering/Transit gateways, VPN connectivity)
  • Inquisitive to investigate unforeseen problems, such as network connectivity anomalies.
  • Can independently complete tasks from beginning to end.
  • Enjoy solving problems with code and have built and used APIs
  • Experienced with at least one programming language, its ecosystem, testing framework, a build system, and you’ve probably tried to profile it. You also know its rough edges and there is at least one thing you really dislike about it.
  • You enjoy learning new technology. Infrastructure work is building and gluing things together.
  • Excellent with Linux. This means you can debug most normal issues with performance, networking, kernel drivers, package management, etc. or have a good idea where to start
  • You have used at least one of the major cloud providers deeply and can reason about cloud-native architecture, controlling costs, and interacting with its APIs.
  • You like to work on projects as a team and help to define outcomes that measure their success.
  • You're outstanding in a diverse, distributed environment across continents and ethnicities.

Bonus Points:

  • Containers & Linux networking (kernel networking, tuning, iptables)
  • Kubernetes cluster networking (CNIs, Service ports, Ingress)
  • Good understanding of the intricacies of managed network services within the scope of major CSPs
  • Designed, implemented, diagnosed, and/or resolved issues with the Elastic Stack
  • VPN access service technologies (OpenVPN, Wireguard)
  • Experience writing non-trivial programs in Go
  • Experience building infrastructure with Infrastructure-as-Code tooling
  • Worked in a large SaaS environment hosted in a public cloud provider
  • Worked on projects using GitHub for version control and/or you’ve tracked work using GitHub Issues
  • Experience with open-source communities, maybe even a project that you’ve fostered yourself
