About the role:

Elastic Cloud is a fully managed service for the Elastic Stack, Security, Observability, and Enterprise Search solutions. We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer specialized in Cloud Networking to guide our Cloud Infrastructure Team.

Our service is operated at planet scale - across major Cloud providers in 50 plus regions across the world, hosting mission-critical workloads for thousands of customers in every industry! The Platform Infrastructure team is a group of engineers and practitioners responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure behind the Elastic Cloud - this includes our Cloud Network Infrastructure as well as Cluster Networking (e.g Kubernetes) and the automation of all administrative functions using industry-standard tooling.

What you will be doing:

In this role you will

  • Design, Manage and migrate networks to private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructures, from major Cloud Service Providers (CSPs).
  • Ensure that our network infrastructure is keeping up with our customer and business needs.
  • Scaling, planning, and executing network component deployments across all of Elastic’s infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting connectivity issues, routing problems, firewalling, and anything related to the network substrate of Elastic.
  • Automating deployment, monitoring, and alerting solutions.
  • Respond to network incidents.
  • Ensure our networking infrastructure costs are kept in check.
  • Be security minded, partnering with other departments, and collaborating successfully.
  • Act as a consultant to other SRE and SWE teams when network infrastructure or Linux networking knowledge is required.
  • Participate in “Follow-the-Sun” On-call rotation.
What you bring along:
  • Excellent networking skills, with knowledge of protocols such as IP/IPv6, TCP/UDP, BGP, VXLAN, VRRP, DNS.
  • Good knowledge of any public CSP network components (Load balancers, VPC peering/Transit gateways, VPN connectivity).
  • A troubleshooting mindset with the will to investigate unforeseen connectivity problems.
  • Independently execute relatively complex tasks from beginning to end.
  • Help and mentor other Site Reliability Engineers.
  • Ego-free attitude — we are here for the success of the team and the company.
Bonus points:

You don't need to have all of these items, but these represent the types of work you will do at Elastic Cloud

  • Containers & Linux Networking (kernel networking tunables, iptables).
  • Kubernetes cluster networking (CNIs, Service ports, Ingress).
  • Good understanding of the intricacies of managed network services (e.g managed WAN services) within the scope of major Cloud Service Providers.
  • Experience with the Elastic Stack, preferably around network monitoring and observability.
  • VPN access service technologies (OpenVPN, Wireguard).
  • You are comfortable writing Software to automate orchestration tasks at scale (we commonly use Python, Go, and Shell scripting).
