At Elastic, we see endless possibility in a world of endless data. And we use the power of search to help people and organizations turn that possibility into results. Elastic is the leading platform for search-powered solutions. With solutions in Enterprise Search, Observability, and Security, we help improve customer and employee search experiences, keep critical applications running smoothly, and protect against cyber threats. Elastic enables organizations worldwide to use the power of Elastic, including Netflix, Uber, BBC, Microsoft, and thousands of others.

Elastic was built on a foundation of being free and open, which trickles down to how we work. We’re a distributed organization and have been from the beginning. Being distributed isn’t just a way of doing business—it’s a mentality that is at the core of our culture.

Response Ops at Elastic

Response Ops for the Elastic Stack allows users to better understand the behavior of their data and act upon it. We have developed a wide range of customisable rules that can plow through large amounts of data, and automatically alert users when specific conditions are detected. Leveraging our high throughput ingestion, querying, and machine learning offerings, we allow users to detect, and alert on, security-related events and operational metrics, create cases to investigate those issues, and take actions to resolve them.

About The Role

You will be a hands-on developer within the Execution & Connectors area of the Response Ops team, which is responsible for the end-to-end alerting platform provided by the Elastic Stack. Working closely with our Security and Observability solutions engineers, you will help us build a world-class platform for authoring rules, prioritizing, investigating, and collaborating, providing a rich set of integrations into 3rd party notification and incident management systems, and the ability to handle sophisticated automated and manual responses workflows.

Some of the things you’ll work on

  • Innovate, lead and contribute to developing a unified Response Ops experience across Elastic using JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Implement and contribute to the design of scalable services which are capable of reliably carrying out potentially thousands of rules, alerts, and actions per cluster.
  • Implement scalable high throughput, yet low latency, integrations with 3rd party services, empowering users to consume their critical alerts and notification however they want.
  • Help to deliver the roadmap of the team, mitigating against technical debt, and providing support to other engineering teams across Elastic as they build on our platform
  • Write comprehensive tests, including unit tests, browser-level integration tests, and end-to-end functional tests that provide confidence in the stability and function of the Elastic stack
  • Collaborate with other experienced engineers, designers, and other partners both in Elastic and our open source community, as we work together to build the best UX for our users in the response ops space

What you will bring

  • Passion, curiosity, and empathy
  • Strong JavaScript/Typescript and Node.js experience
  • Experience developing scalable, high performing services and applications
  • Ready to be part of a distributed-first team, having collaboration and communication skills
  • You know how to use design patterns to create simple and reusable components for sophisticated UIs
  • Comfort with JavaScript-based web application frameworks
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in data-driven design and test automation

Experience in these areas is a plus

  • Knowledge, interest, and a real passion for topics in operations and alerting
  • Knowledge of Incident Management, IT Operations, IT Infrastructure, Application Performance Monitoring and/or IT Security domains
