Director of Product, Cloud Control Plane (R4808)

At Elastic, we see endless possibility in a world of endless data. And we use the power of search to help people and organizations turn that possibility into results. Elastic is the leading platform for search-powered solutions. With solutions in Enterprise Search, Observability, and Security, we help improve customer and employee search experiences, keep critical applications running smoothly, and protect against cyber threats. Elastic enables organizations worldwide to use the power of Elastic, including Netflix, Uber, BBC, Microsoft, and thousands of others.

Elastic was built on a foundation of being free and open, which trickles down to how we work. We’re a distributed organization and have been from the beginning. Being distributed isn’t just a way of doing business—it’s a mentality that is at the core of our culture.

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced product leader to be responsible for the direction and development of Elastic’s cloud control plane infrastructure. It includes aspects like IAM, public APIs, networking and the orchestration and management of Elasticsearch and Kibana across multiple products (Elastic Cloud, Elastic Cloud Enterprise and Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes).

We are looking for a person who has helped define the vision and made critical decisions in the evolution of a technology focused, developers oriented product in the areas of containers, orchestration, distributed data stores and Kubernetes.

What you will be doing:

  • Work closely with the Elastic Control Plane Engineering Team and Tech Leads to define and maintain a shared vision and roadmap for the future of Elastic Cloud and the orchestration product portfolio.
  • Directly manage a team of highly skilled, deeply technical product managers.
  • Work with upstream product and engineering teams at Elastic to ensure awareness and alignment of the priority and timing of critical features and changes, and their applicability to the cloud and orchestration products.
  • Collaborate with the Sales & Marketing teams on go-to-market, messaging, competitive analysis and enablement.
  • Gather market competitive and trend data, customer and community feedback and product insights that inform product decisions.

What you bring along:

  • You hold a BS degree in Computer Science or bring equivalent technical experience in software engineering organizations.
  • A minimum of 10 years in Product Management, of which at least 5 years have been spent leading product teams and managing technology focused products.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communications skills.
  • Solid understanding and familiarity with cloud technologies (such as AWS, Azure, and GCP), containers and Kubernetes, and developer-focused products in general.
  • Curiosity and an open mind.
  • Ego-free attitude — we are here for the success of the team and the company.
  • Empathy, transparency, and a good sense of humor.

Experience/interest in some of these areas would be nice:

  • Direct experience with the Elastic Stack, or experience with one or more of the common use-cases for the Elastic Stack, such as application search, logging, metrics, APM, business analytics, security analytics, etc.
  • Comfort working in a very cross-functional role, with a highly distributed, global team.
  • Open source software and/or commercial open source companies.
  • Experience with products offered both via SaaS and self-managed delivery model.
  • Good sense for user experience and design.
