We are hiring a proven Senior Corporate Counsel with approximately 5 – 7+ years’ experience with US Federal, State and Local government contracting. Come join our evolving Americas Commercial Legal team within the Global Legal department in this fast growing, truly globally distributed company!

Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal, this position will be ideal for a self-sufficient and resourceful mid-level attorney located in the US. However, priority will be given to those located in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia.

What you will be doing:

  • Primarily responsible for drafting, negotiating, and structuring a wide variety of sales and partner contracts in support to empower our US Public Sector Sales and Business Development organizations to sell software licensing, SaaS, services. Once established, there is also opportunity to work on general commercial technology contracts in the Americas.
  • You will assist in the development of contract templates, playbooks and SOPs, and provide counsel on state, local and federal government contracts compliance, to include providing advice on FAR, DFARS, and agency regulations, and applicable state laws.
  • Complete and maintain representations and certifications and perform due diligence to support record keeping, and counsel internal clients on government contracts-related compliance matters related to human resources, marketing, product development, information security, and other topics
  • Engage closely with the wider Legal Department spread across the globe, Elastic’s go-to-market, finance and compliance organization.
  • Support Global Trade Compliance team projects – including export control and trade sanctions regulation.
  • Demonstrate initiative to help build and strengthen workflow processes between the Legal Department and other departments within Elastic to accelerate dealmaking velocity.
  • Partner with similarly motivated and innovative co-workers within a company culture that is open and inclusive to drive positive change that is aligned to our Source Code and team mission.

What You Bring Along:

  • You have 5 to 7 years of experience in the drafting and negotiation of technology contracts with governmental bodies, excellent judgment, and are able to balance legal risks with business strategy. Prior experience representing high-growth or startup technology companies is strongly preferred.
  • Experience & knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and legal systems in the United States.
  • You will have the ability to balance legal risks with business strategy.

Moreover, you have/are:

A self-starter by nature - you have a proven track record of balancing multiple projects and recalibrating advice in view of shifting priorities, legal developments, and risk tolerance. You have experience with, or have at least a good working knowledge of, complex software licensing and cloud business models and related legal issues, and a demonstrated ability to consistently deliver outstanding results. Familiarity with data protection and privacy issues and concerns in the context of technology transactions is a significant plus.

Written and spoken English is essential. Proficiency or fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus and may lead to opportunities supporting our business in Latin America. Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.  

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below.  In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below. 

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.  

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program.  Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.

$153,800$243,340 USD
The typical starting salary range for this role in the select locations listed above is:
$184,600$291,985 USD
