At Elastic, we see endless possibility in a world of endless data. And we use the power of search to help people and organizations turn that possibility into results. Elastic is the leading platform for search-powered solutions. With solutions in Enterprise Search, Observability, and Security, we help improve customer and employee search experiences, keep critical applications running smoothly, and protect against cyber threats. Elastic enables organizations worldwide to use the power of Elastic, including Netflix, Uber, BBC, Microsoft, and thousands of others.

Elastic was built on a foundation of being free and open, which trickles down to how we work. We’re a distributed organization and have been from the beginning. Being distributed isn’t just a way of doing business—it’s a mentality that is at the core of our culture.

Community matters. Our users and contributors have helped ensure that the Elastic Stack (including Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, and Logstash) is more than just code — they are free and open projects that people love to use and love to talk about. Community is core to our company identity!

Are you the kind of person who is keen on sharing technology with the world and supporting our tech community? That includes in-person or virtual conferences or meetups and Discuss, Slack, or GitHub. The Community team's mission is to educate and help our users succeed.

If you read this far and think, "that's me!" you probably won't need to read any further, and we should have a conversation. But if you doubt the type of experience we expect you to have, the following should help clarify.

What You Bring Along:

  • Technical background and experience; specifically backend programming (Java, Node.JS, PHP, Golang).
  • Experience with Elastic or related technologies (databases, APIs, OSS, cloud-native).
  • Consistent track record of building compelling content about technology — including speaking, writing, and demoing.
  • Patience and compassion for the community to help them tackle their issues, provide internal feedback to make Elastic’s products better, and fix struggles where possible.
  • Comfort working in a highly distributed team but also autonomously.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a digestible way.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.

Bonus Points:

  • Involvement in past Elastic Community events as speaker or organizer.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases, such as Elasticsearch.
  • Familiarity with data ingestion tools, such as Logstash and Beats.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools, such as Kibana.
  • Experience with security, observability, or DevOps.
  • Experience with open source software or commercial open source companies.
  • Elastic Certified Engineer certification.
  • Proficiency in additional language(s), specifically Spanish.

What to expect in the first six months:

  • A general understanding of the Elastic community, the programs we support, and the tools we use.
  • Opportunity to take training to acquire a foundational understanding of the Elastic Stack.
  • Establish relationships with community organizers and members in the US and Canada.
  • Comfortability to begin responding to community questions in our forums and across social media platforms.
  • Ability to identify the needs of the community, and connect those needs to the more useful content, and how to locate the needed content.
  • Awareness of what areas of community engagement such as audience, platforms, and topics you feel you can give the most to.
