We are hiring a Marketing Counsel to join the legal department in this fast growing, truly globally distributed company! This position is ideal for a self-sufficient and resourceful mid-level attorney based in the Bay Area, and we will consider candidates located anywhere in the United States. This is a growth position in a fast-paced technology company covering SaaS, Licensing and Managed Packages.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Counsel marketing teams on their initiatives across all channels and platforms. This includes providing advice on relevant legal principles worldwide for marketing outreach and lead generation. Examples include marketing campaigns, events, and contest and sweepstakes design and implementation.
  • You will also draft and negotiate marketing, strategic partnership, vendor, and other agreements enabling the marketing team’s activities.
  • Provide first-line review of privacy questions arising from marketing initiatives, and coordinate with the legal privacy team on more complex privacy issues.
  • Collaborate with the Branding team on developing and maintaining a company brand strategy, and partner with the IP legal function to protect Elastic's intellectual property in its brand assets.
  • Build out a process for legal review of marketing materials and content, including company releases, blog posts, case studies, and customer testimonials.
  • Work closely with relevant marketing teams to develop legal guidance and policies tailored each team's workflows.
  • Partner with co-workers, in a company culture that is open, welcoming and unequaled.

What You Bring Along:

  • Demonstrated ability advising technology companies on marketing issues, either in house or at a law firm (approximately 3-5 years).
  • General understanding and ability to learn about data protection laws and regulations relevant to marketing.
  • Familiarity with, or desire to learn about, ad technologies, cookies, trackers, accessibility and other marketing technologies.
  • Good judgment and the ability to balance legal risks with business strategy, including scaling with automation and self-serve for high-volume, low cost events.
  • Ability to flexibly prioritize and handle ambiguity.
  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional collaboration and team work.

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $128,100 and $176,200, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.

Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within a holistic total rewards offering.
