We are looking for an Engineering Manager to support and inspire our Adaptive Workload Protection Sensor team. The manager will mentor and lead a globally distributed team of 5 - 8 senior software engineers.

The Adaptive Workload Protection (AWP) Team provides visibility, instrumentation and protection for dynamic cloud workloads and infrastructure. We use the superpowers provided by eBPF technologies to peer into the Linux kernel and provide comprehensive runtime metadata. Our solution’s goal is to observe and protect our customers’ cloud workloads. 

The right candidate will have prior experience building a centrally managed Linux service using the latest technology (eBPF). They should be able to hit the ground running when first hired and, over time, continue to keep up with the latest advancements in Linux and Cloud technologies to make sure the AWP solution evolves and remains highly effective. 

This person will lead the development of the AWP Team’s eBPF sensor technology. They will work closely with the Linux kernel and be knowledgeable about its latest features and capabilities. Performance is also a concern as this code will run directly on the customer’s infrastructure.

  • Work closely with the Linux kernel and be knowledgeable about its latest features and capabilities.
  • Define CPU and memory performance requirements and ensure the solution meets them.
  • Foster a culture of mutual respect and collaborative decision-making
  • Stay true to the principles of software development as adopted by our team
  • Identify staffing requirements and help drive recruitment of high-quality colleagues
  • Support the development and training of direct reports through regular performance evaluations
  • Be an excellent person to work with, somebody who sincerely empathizes with others
  • Mentor the software engineers in the team as well as other Area Leads and Team Leads

What You Bring Along

  • A compassionate approach to communication, a good sense of humour, and a genuine interest in the success and growth of the people you work with
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and information security
  • Experience working with Kubernetes and a solid understanding of its architecture
  • Experience building a centrally managed Linux service using the most recent technology and, ideally eBPF
  • Previous experience working with C and C++
  • Practical experience with OS concepts such as IPC, threads, processes, and scheduling
  • Solid understanding of the Linux process execution model
  • A solid understanding of CPU and memory management and tooling used for their optimization
  • Experience leading complex engineering projects that cross engineering teams
  • Performance management experience for a team of software engineers (promotions, PIPs, development plans, terminations)
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $135,900 and $186,900, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.

Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within a holistic total rewards offering.
