Head of UX (R5014)

The Head of UX will manage our product design, system design and research teams as they deliver a coherent experience across Elastic’s broad suite of products. You’ll work cross-team with the Engineering, Product and Documentation teams on our largest initiatives, influencing Elastic’s roadmap at the highest level.


  • Hire and maintain a world-class UX team of product designers, system engineers and researchers.
  • Organize and collaborate with product and engineering teams on broad, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Document and maintain the overall roadmap for UX at large within the company.
  • Champion quality in our product offering, pushing for excellence and consistency as it relates to our users’ needs.
  • Mentor UX managers as they navigate their own teams and deliverables.
  • Communicate the mission and vision of the UX team within the company.
  • Work with system designers and engineers to anticipate design-at-scale concerns.
  • Continually intake user-research and analytics to make data-driven decisions of high-impact.
  • Define and document our UX team processes, providing support and coverage for a busy team.

Skills & experience

  • Proficient in current design tooling and the foundations of good design.
  • Experience running a large UX team in a technical field with multiple layers of reporting.
  • Have an understanding of system design, accessibility and design dependency management with downstream stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Previous success delivering products in a high-growth environment, inventing new designs with little-to-no precedent.
  • Have an understanding of technical work with some background in programming as it relates to our developer customer-base.
  • Experience in SAAS-driven flows and models with a constant drive towards further optimization.

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $219,100 and $301,400, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.

Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within a holistic total rewards offering.
