Observability - Principal Product Manager - Continuous Profiling

The Observability team is in charge of developing solutions that focus on application developers and engineers that run infrastructure and services supporting these applications. The Elastic stack is an efficient platform for logs, metrics, application traces and most recently - stacktraces or continuous profiling data, enabling a variety of proactive and reactive workflows ranging from monitoring, diagnostics to security and user analytics. The Observability team builds and maintains solutions that make getting insights from this data turnkey and efficient, such as our APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, Logs, and Synthetic Monitoring solutions. When developing these solutions, we think about the problem end-to-end: how do we automatically collect data from common data sources, how do we store it efficiently in Elasticsearch, how do we present this information to the user, how do we correlate and enhance across data sources, what actions do we take on the insights from the data? All of these aspects are important in bringing a turnkey solution to the market. 

As a product manager in Elastic Observability you will work collaboratively with the team/tech leads and engineers of the Profiling team. With the recent acquisition of Optimyze (developers of prodfiler.com), you will get a unique chance to work with the latest technologies based on eBPF to bring continuous profiling to our customers. You will focus on discovering, designing and bringing to life new functionality to help SREs and developers detect and diagnose various problems, in both production and test environments, using continuous, system-wide profiling. 

You will be successful in this role if you have a passion for systematically digging into and understanding customer needs, combined with a desire to create products that are used and loved across the globe.  

This role will require a combination of product management and technical knowledge in order to design and deliver the best product experience for SREs and developers. An ideal candidate will care deeply about understanding customer’s problems and have a background either in performance analysis specifically, or a related technical field. They will be happy both defining high level product vision, and getting into the low level details of performance issues and how our products can solve them.

What you will be working on: 

• In combination with the team and tech leads for Profiling, continuously define, validate and improve product vision, roadmap and go-to-market strategy.
• Regularly engage with internal and external customers to understand their needs, priorities and challenges; together with the team develop and validate new ideas and designs; collect feedback about existing features and ways to expand adoption of Elastic Observability.
• Work with engineers and designers to scope and define compelling features and drive them from inception, design to release and validation.
• Define and track KPIs focused on product and feature adoption.
• Write technical blog posts that demonstrate the capabilities of our solutions in solving real-world problems.
• Develop differentiated messaging around Elastic Continuous Profiling capabilities.
• Enable sales, marketing, and partners to speak effectively to the continuous profiling use cases.
• Be one of the public spokespeople for Elastic Continuous Profiling at internal and external events.

What you should bring along:

1. Proven practitioner experience in application optimisation and troubleshooting, ideally with experience using state of the art profiling, APM or other performance/diagnostic tools
2. 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in programming languages like C/C++, Java, .NET, Rust or Go. 
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. 3+ years in either product management, team or tech leadership, with experience working on small and large features end-to-end from ideation, discovery, design to execution, delivery and validation. 
5. Ability to work in a distributed team throughout the world.
6. Familiarity with the Elastic Stack is a plus but not required.
7. Desire to learn and help others to grow.

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $152,200 and $209,300, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.

Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within a holistic total rewards offering.
