The team is diverse and distributed across the world, and collaborates on a daily basis over GitHub, Zoom, and Slack. Thus, the ability to work within a distributed team is critical. You don’t always need to be the person with the answer or the person making the decisions, but instead should be able to guide discussions to help the team make decisions together.

As a Tech Lead for the Security Solution, you will be ultimately responsible for the technical architecture and quality of our Security Solution, built on top of the Elastic stack. You will be partnering and working closely with a VP-level Team Lead and Product Lead to ensure an inclusive, productive, and successful work environment for a large team (150+ people). You will be working closely also with peer Tech Leads from the other major teams in Elastic (Platform/Stack, Cloud, Observability) in order to ensure a consistent architecture and user experience across our products.

Some of the things you'll work on

  • Provide technical leadership for the Security team, working collaboratively with other Tech Leads in the team.
  • Learn the strengths and weaknesses of the Elastic stack and guide the Security teams to use the strengths and avoid the pitfalls.
  • Act as a contact point for the other Elastic teams for anything related to the technology built by the Security team.
  • Drive decisions on technical topics both within the team and across teams.
  • Ask questions and challenge the teams toward simplification and well designed architecture. Focus teams on achieving measurable outcomes. 
  • While direct code contributions are not generally expected at this level, staying hands-on is appreciated by the team. Lead by example by coding proof of concepts, doing benchmarks, and leaving thoughtful reviews.

Requirements

  • Significant previous experience providing technical leadership for a team of senior engineers
  • Significant previous experience in an ownership role for technical direction and strategy
  • Previous experience working with stakeholders outside of Engineering
  • Experience developing and reviewing complex technical requirements, and translating them into actionable tasks for engineers.
  • Experience architecting and/or operating large data pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to drive conversations across multiple teams to a conclusion.

  • Experience with the Elastic Stack
  • Experience in the Security space, especially SIEM or Security Analytics products
  • Experience delivering open source products

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $163,100 and $224,300, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.

Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within a holistic total rewards offering.
