Elastic is seeking an expert payroll tax manager to join our AMER Payroll Team! The ideal candidate is a payroll professional with previous payroll processing and employment tax experience, ready to tackle new initiatives and responsibilities. As part of our growing organization, the Payroll Tax Manager will cover the AMER regions of Employment Tax and Data Management. You will report to the Director of Americas payroll and have one direct tax specialist reporting to you. You will build working partnerships with payroll vendors, related agencies and partners for the company tax administration in Workday and Ceridian. As Payroll Tax Manager, you’ll enjoy running key tax administration duties to support and maintain the tax master process and interpersonal structure with adherence to payroll, labor, tax governance and compliance. You are knowledgeable in payroll withholdings, employment tax forms, statutory filings, audit and reconciliation and will be the backup for AMER regional payroll processing, also supporting initiatives for the broader team.

What You Will Be Doing:

You will lead payroll tax, workers compensation, backup processing, payroll communications and reporting for our AMER region. Other duties may be assigned, but priorities include running:

  • AMER Employment Tax & Data Administration
  • Review Payroll Tax Audit and Reconciliations
  • Perform/Review Tax Adjustments
  • Maintain payroll tax master files, folders and mail
  • Supervise regional payroll compliance and ordinances
  • Directly communicate over the phone and email with Tax Agencies and Vendors
  • Audit tax payments and statutory filings for accuracy
  • Support Quarter-End, Year-End, and Annual Tax Year Processes
  • Use Excel, Tax Portals and Payroll Data solutions
  • Potential backup on and off-cycle payroll processing (REG, SUPP, ADJ, STOCK, etc.)

What You Bring Along:

  • Previous experience with Workday required, including company level tax set-ups and maintenance/administration
  • Experience leading and meeting multiple critical deadlines
  • Deep understanding of Federal, State and Local Employment Tax
  • Understanding of Equity and Stock related transactions
  • Communicates well both verbally and in writing with all levels of roles across organization
  • Demonstrates cross-cultural sensitivity, you can work within a global population
  • Strong attention to details and follow-through on assigned tasks and commitments
  • Strong interpersonal skills, you can successfully disseminate information in a clear manner
  • Proven experience in payroll with multi-state populations, having performed payroll processing with responsibilities in quarter and year-end, W-2 issuance, and Payroll Taxes
  • Experience with Tax Registration, TPA and POA process.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with Advance skills in Microsoft Excel is required.


  • Bachelor degree
  • Experience working through Merger & Acquisitions
  • Experience with Ceridian and ADP Smart Compliance (previous vendor)
  • Payroll Courses, Certifications and Designations are a plus: CPP-Certified Payroll Professional; FPC-Fundamental Payroll Certification, PCP-Payroll Compliance Practitioner

The typical starting Total Cash Compensation range for new hires in this role is between $106,800 and $146,900, which consists of a Base Salary or a Base Salary plus a Target Commission, depending on the specific role. The Base Salary offered may vary depending on factors including skills and experience.
